Microsoft Corp. recently unveiled an expansion of its Priva privacy management service, introducing new automated functionalities to assist organizations in meeting privacy regulations concerning personal data.

Introduced in 2021, Priva is a comprehensive privacy management solution provided by Microsoft. It aids organizations in proactively identifying and mitigating privacy risks, empowers employees to make informed decisions regarding data handling, and automates large-scale subject requests.

Microsoft unveiled five new enhancements to Priva, commencing with Microsoft Priva Privacy Assessments. Priva’s automation expansion solution automates the discovery, documentation, and evaluation of personal data usage across an organization’s entire data estate.

Priva Privacy Assessments streamline the creation of privacy assessments, enabling users to uncover and document personal data usage across an organization’s data estate through effortlessly customized assessments. It facilitates monitoring personal data usage, including tracking changes in data processing activities that necessitate privacy compliance actions. Additionally, it facilitates the evaluation of privacy risks by leveraging automated risk analysis based on the data usage information acquired from a privacy assessment.

The second release, Microsoft Priva Privacy Risk Management, is designed to streamline identifying unstructured personal data usage. Priva Privacy Risk Management empowers users to automate risk mitigation through easily configurable policies in Priva’s automation expansion. It aids in establishing a privacy-resilient workplace by pinpointing personal data and associated critical privacy risks.

The third release, Microsoft Priva Tracker Scanning, automates the discovery and categorization of tracking technologies—such as cookies, pixels, and beacons—across all an organization’s websites. With Tracker Scanning, organizations can remediate risks associated with tracker noncompliance, monitor website compliance effectively, and promptly address any compliance issues that arise.

The fourth release, Microsoft Priva Consent Management, offers a solution for strengthening an organization’s personal data consent management and publishing capabilities in a simplified and streamlined manner. The feature empowers users to craft customizable and regulatory-compliant consent models, simplify the deployment process, and tailor organization-specific layouts for consent models that conform to changing business needs.

The final release, Microsoft Priva Subject Rights Requests, facilitates organizations in automating the fulfillment of subject rights requests across their on-premises, hybrid, and multicloud environments. Organizations can effectively oversee the access, deletion, and export of subject rights requests throughout their data landscape, fostering customer trust and confidence.

In a blog post, Herain Oberoi, the General Manager of data security, compliance, and privacy at Microsoft, and Paul Brightmore, Head of Product at Microsoft Privacy, shared their insights, “Robust privacy solutions are essential for regulatory adherence and in cultivating a culture of transparency, accountability, and respect for user privacy. By embracing more robust privacy solutions, organizations not only fortify their defenses, but they also embark on a journey to forge enduring relationships with their customers — relationships based on mutual trust and data integrity.”
