Okta Inc., an identity access management company, recently announced the availability of a new service designed to help organizations optimize their identity security posture.

The new Security Center service is an intrusion prevention service that leverages insights from the Okta Customer Identity Cloud to offer a consolidated view of authentication events and the effectiveness of your response to threats. It contains real-time data on the current state of an organization’s attack defenses, including threat monitoring of attack vectors and insight into authentication traffic at the application layer.

With this release, Okta is advancing a solution to the problem that an organization’s security posture may need to be more relaxed and more lax. To determine the situation, organizations must analyze logs and third-party tools to identify and respond to attacks effectively. This is where Security Center comes into play.

The service leverages security insights from the Okta Customer Identity Cloud to enable teams to detect and respond to identity threats faster. This provides a streamlined view of the effectiveness of responding to authentication events, potential incidents, and threats, helping security teams optimize their security posture without incurring undue additional costs or building in-house solutions.

Chief Information Security Officer for customer identity at Okta, Jameeka Aaron, said in a blog post, “As attacks against identity flows get more sophisticated and evolve to bypass detection, security teams often have to go through a learning curve on their own production environments, which can mean delayed detection of attacks and consequent business losses. “Security Center leverages our focused expertise in identity security and packages it so that security operations professionals can understand and take action.”

Security Center also provides the ability to measure the impact of all intrusion prevention features your organization has on user experience. According to Okta, intrusion prevention capabilities must balance security and user experience, balancing friction while providing adequate protection against identity attacks.

The new service demonstrates the impact of defensive tactics on user experience and allows organizations to customize security and friction at their own discretion. This will enable organizations to optimize their attack mitigation strategies by seeing in near real-time how defensive tactics such as multi-factor authentication, rate limiting, and CAPTCHA impact applications and usage.
