Google LLC announced the latest security provisions for entire Google One plans along with the expansion of virtual private network services for all subscribers.
Google One provides users with additional storage facility over Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. At the initial level, 100 GB of storage is offered as compared to the standard 15 GB free storage that comes with every Google account. Besides, an option to buy additional storage is also available.
Google One has been perceived as just a storage option by most users; however, Google is trying to change that by providing additional security layers. It offers all subscribers a VPN access by Google One, an option that was earlier available only with the plan of 2 TB Platinum Google One or above. Moreover, the search engine giant is also planning to introduce a dark web report in the US so that the users can keep track of their personal data that lies in some remote corner of the internet, only accessible with specialized software.
Google One’s VPN claims to offer enhanced protection to the users while hovering over the internet, irrespective of any app or browser they use. The service masquerades IP addresses to prevent internet sessions from network operators or hackers.
Google claims that if the users visit apps and sites without a VPN, their IP address could be leveraged to determine their location or monitor their online activities. Hence, the new service is cautious and makes sure that user’s identity cannot be linked to the network traffic.
The latest dark web report of the Google can keep track of the concealed web for compromised data, thereby helping users to spot their personal information such as address, name, contact number, email, and social security number, thus, alerting them every time their data is exposed. In case if any information on the dark web is found resembling, this service guides users about how to protect that susceptible data. For instance, if the social security number of any user is found on the dark web, the service immediately reports it as breached to the government and recommends the necessary actions to execute to protect the user’s credit.
Apart from the improved security features, all Google One plans offer expandable cloud storage, access to expert support, editing options such as Google Photos’ Magic Eraser, and other features of Google.
The access to VPN for all Google One users has been rolling out and will be available to the users across 22 countries for iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac devices in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, the dark web report will be accessible to the users over all Google One plans in the US in the coming weeks.
